Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memories of the Mistress of the Dark is out now from Hachette. By Chris Azzopardi | photos courtesy of Cassandra Peterson. But I think it will be nice not to have to hide it, and for her and me not to have to lie to people all the time, which is basically what we were doing.
And then the relationship just got deeper, and then we've been together for 19 years and it's fantastic. Since Peterson went public about Wierson this week, she has been celebrated and supported by her queer fans. She's not that kind of person.
Elvira, aka Cassandra Peterson, opens up on the freedom of coming out: "I feel lighter". In celebration of Elvira's next elvira -- and hey, it's Halloween -- take a look back at these boo-tiful portraits over the years proving why she is the undisputed Queer Queen of Spooky.
I didn't grow a beard, but I'm starting one now. I hate that. Peterson came out in September in her new tell-all book, “ Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark,” where she writes about. And oddly, when I was married to a man for 25 years, I did not tell anybody I was married and I tried my best to keep that a secret.
I haven't ever been gay and I don't feel like… I guess, you know, now there's non-binary, gender-fluid, whatever. Because, again, Elvira's a big horndog. She prefers that. The actress, who was born Cassandra Peterson, shared her love story in her new.

I don't know what the hell I am! It makes her crazy! She's always after guys, guys are chasing her, and I am the owner of a brand. Elvira, the famed “Mistress of the Dark,” has shared she identifies as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s like a blood-curdling scream that says, “Gay rights!!!” It turns out Troye Sivan was ahead of the curve at this year’s Met Gala; listen carefully and you can already hear the growing stampede on a certain costume with a plunging neckline.
Cassandra Peterson, famously known as pop culture Halloween icon Elvira, isn’t scared anymore — at least not when it comes to saying that, yes, she’s a member of the LGBTQ+ community. So, I just kept my relationships private as I could, just to keep the character intact.
As far as she was concerned, it was great being that way. That feels weird to me. I fell in love with somebody who I met, who I really loved, and she was a woman. Oh, gay partner] loves it when we're walking down the street and a hot guy goes by and I'm like [gawking]!
What's up with that? Peterson, with her impeccable comic timing, cracks jokes about her sexuality throughout her Yahoo Entertainment interview.
